Texas A&M Off-Campus Housing Timeline: When to Tour, Sign and Move In
In College Station, the search for off-campus housing starts earlier than most students expect. Many Aggies begin touring in the fall for the following school year, and the most popular floor plans near campus often lease well before spring. Knowing the timeline helps you get the layout, location and roommates you want without a last-minute scramble.
Here’s a month-by-month guide to finding off-campus housing at Texas A&M, from EVER College Station in the Northgate district.
Early Fall: Start the Conversation
Talk with potential roommates early. Decide how many people you want to live with, what your budget looks like, and whether you’d rather live within walking distance of campus or drive in. If your parents are helping with the decision, bring them into the conversation now.
This is also a good time to learn the neighborhoods. Northgate, just north of campus, is known for its walkability and energy. Our Northgate off-campus housing guide covers what makes the area popular with students.
October to December: Tour and Compare
Schedule tours and compare communities side by side. Look beyond rent and ask what’s included: furniture, internet, utilities, parking and amenities can make a big difference in your true monthly cost. Browse floor plans ahead of time so you know which layouts to ask about.
If a community is still under construction, like EVER College Station before its summer 2027 opening, ask to see renderings, model layouts and the gallery, and ask about the expected move-in date.
Winter: Sign Your Lease
Once you’ve chosen a community and roommates, sign as soon as you’re ready. Individual leases are common in student housing, which means each roommate is responsible for their own bedroom and share of rent. Many students need a guarantor, often a parent, so plan for that paperwork. Our FAQ page explains common leasing questions.
Spring: Plan the Details
With your lease signed, spring is the time to coordinate with roommates on shared items, confirm parking needs and keep an eye out for move-in communications. Make sure your contact information is up to date with the leasing team.
Summer: Get Ready to Move In
Confirm your move-in date, set up renters insurance if required, and make a packing list. If your apartment is furnished, you’ll need far less than you think. Focus on bedding, kitchen basics and personal items.
